What you get

How Many Days Do You Need in Seychelles?

Five to seven days is the recommended trip length for a first Seychelles itinerary, covering Mahé, Praslin and La Digue without rushing. Three days is tight and best limited to Mahé. Ten days allows Curieuse, hiking and rest days. A good route moves island by island, with arrival and departure days kept light.

A well-structured Seychelles itinerary follows a simple sequence: arrive on Mahé, spend two or three nights, take a ferry to Praslin for two nights, then a short ferry to La Digue for one or two nights before returning to Mahé for departure. This order minimises backtracking because inter-island ferries run between Mahé, Praslin and La Digue.

The number of days you need depends on how many islands you want to cover. Mahé alone needs two full days to see Victoria, Beau Vallon and Morne Seychellois National Park. Praslin needs two days for Vallée de Mai and Anse Lazio. La Digue needs at least one overnight to experience Anse Source d’Argent outside day-trip hours.

For Indian travellers, a 7-day itinerary is the practical sweet spot: it fits annual leave, covers the three main islands and includes one marine excursion. A 10-day plan adds Curieuse Island and a slower resort day. A 14-day plan is possible but risks becoming too long unless you add diving or a remote-island stay.

  • 3 days: Mahé only — Victoria, Beau Vallon, one excursion. Tight but workable for a stopover.
  • 5 days: Mahé plus Praslin or La Digue. Good for a first taste.
  • 7 days: Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. Ideal for first-timers.
  • 10 days: Adds Curieuse, hiking and rest days. Ideal for slower travel.
  • 14 days: Too long for most unless adding diving or remote islands.

Best forMost Indian travellers on a first Seychelles trip.

StrengthsCovers Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. Includes Vallée de Mai, Anse Source d’Argent and one marine excursion. Balanced pace.

Trade-offsRequires two ferry transfers. Peak-season ferries need advance booking.

Trade-offsHigher cost. Requires more annual leave. Some days may feel repetitive if you prefer constant activity.

The comparison below uses indicative per-person land costs from research data, excluding international airfare. These are planning ranges, not Tripstor package offers. Ferry schedules and inter-island transfers affect how many islands fit comfortably.

A 3-day itinerary is possible but leaves no margin for weather or ferry delays. The 5-day option covers Mahé and one other island. The 7-day option is the most balanced. The 10-day option suits travellers who want hiking, wildlife and beach time without daily transfers.

Highlights

Where to Base Yourself in Seychelles

Mahé, Praslin and La Digue are the three main bases for a Seychelles itinerary. Mahé suits arrival, Victoria and hiking. Praslin suits Vallée de Mai and Anse Lazio. La Digue suits cycling and Anse Source d’Argent. Base changes require ferry transfers, so plan two to three nights per island.

  1. Mahé

    Mahé

Largest island with Victoria, Morne Seychellois trails, Beau Vallon and the main airport. Combines culture, hiking and beaches.

Best forFirst-timers, hikers, travellers wanting restaurant choice.

Do not treat Mahé only as an arrival island; allow at least one full day because mountain roads make cross-island sightseeing slower than map distances suggest.

  2. Praslin

    Praslin

Home to Vallée de Mai, giant endemic palms and access to Anse Lazio and Curieuse.

Best forNature lovers, beachgoers, Curieuse day trips.

Schedule Vallée de Mai early and pair it with one beach rather than attempting every Praslin attraction in a single transfer-heavy day.

  3. La Digue

    La Digue

Cycling lanes, granite scenery and Anse Source d’Argent create Seychelles’ most distinctive slow-island experience.

    Best forCouples, photographers, slow travel.

A day trip misses the quieter late afternoon and early morning; overnight if cycling and beach photography matter.

  4. La Digue

    Anse Source d’Argent

Shallow lagoon and sculpted granite boulders, among the archipelago’s signature landscapes. Access through L’Union Estate.

Best forPhotography, swimming at high tide.

The beach is tidal; arriving at the wrong tide can produce a very different swimming experience.

  5. Near Praslin

    Curieuse Island

Protected island known for free-ranging Aldabra giant tortoises, mangroves and guided coastal trails.

Best forWildlife, day trips from Praslin.

Most visits are boat excursions from Praslin and often combine snorkelling; confirm marine conditions before paying for a nonrefundable trip.

  6. Mahé

    Morne Seychellois National Park

Rainforest trails and elevated viewpoints across Mahé, including routes toward Morne Blanc.

    Best forHiking, rainforest views.

Carry water and use a guide for less-marked trails; cloud cover can obscure viewpoints even when beaches are sunny.

  7. Mahé

    Victoria

Compact capital with the market, clock tower, museums and Creole food culture.

    Best forCulture, shopping, half-day visit.

Most sights close earlier than resort guests expect, so plan the market and museums in the morning.

Choosing the right base reduces travel time and lets you experience each island beyond day-trip hours. Mahé has the widest choice of restaurants and services. Praslin is central for Curieuse excursions. La Digue is small and best explored by bicycle.

Travel tips

Planning Tips for Your Seychelles Trip Itinerary

Book ferries and popular excursions in advance, especially in peak season. Keep arrival and departure days light. Use scheduled catamarans between Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. Carry water for hikes. Confirm marine conditions before nonrefundable boat trips. These practical steps reduce stress and help your Seychelles travel plan run smoothly.

  1. Book ferries in advance

Scheduled catamarans connect Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. Peak-season seats sell out; reserve before you finalise hotels.

    Transport
  2. Keep arrival and departure days light

Flight delays and ferry timings can eat into your first and last days. Plan only one activity on those days.

    Pacing
  3. Carry water for hikes

Morne Seychellois trails can be humid. Cloud cover may obscure viewpoints even when beaches are sunny.

    Activity
  4. Confirm marine conditions

Curieuse and snorkelling trips depend on sea conditions. Confirm before paying for a nonrefundable excursion.

    Activity
  5. Complete ETA before departure

Indians generally do not need a visa but must obtain the Seychelles Electronic Travel Authorisation before travel.

    Documentation
  6. Plan Vallée de Mai early

Schedule the reserve early in your Praslin stay and pair it with one beach rather than attempting every attraction in one day.

    Sightseeing

Inter-island travel is by scheduled catamaran, domestic flight or private boat. Reserve peak-season ferry seats early. Transfers between airport, ferry terminals and hotels should be pre-arranged. Pacing matters: two to three nights per island is better than daily transfers.

Combine Seychelles with nearby destinations only if you have 10 days or more. For shorter trips, focus on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. Indian travellers should complete the Electronic Travel Authorisation before departure.

Ask a specialist anything about this trip — there’s no obligation.

Ask a specialist
01Is Seychelles visa-free for Indians?

Yes. Indians generally do not need a visa, but every traveller must obtain the Seychelles Electronic Travel Authorisation before departure and satisfy entry conditions. Apply online through the official portal and carry a copy. Approval is not guaranteed, so apply well before your travel date.

02What is the best time to visit Seychelles?

April–May and October–November are commonly preferred for calmer seas, warm temperatures and favourable conditions for island activities. These months fall between the north-west and south-east monsoon periods. Peak-season ferries and hotels book out early, so reserve ahead if travelling then.

03How much does a Seychelles trip cost from India?

A practical land-only package commonly ranges from about INR 85,000 per person for budget travel to INR 2,20,000 or more for premium travel, excluding international airfare. These are indicative planning ranges, not Tripstor offers. Costs vary by island, season and hotel category.

04How many days are enough for Seychelles?

Five to seven days is suitable for Mahé plus Praslin and La Digue; three days is possible but rushed. A 7-day itinerary covers the three main islands with one marine excursion. Ten days adds Curieuse and slower beach time without daily transfers.

05Do Indians need a travel authorisation for Seychelles?

Yes. Indian travellers must complete the official Electronic Travel Authorisation before departure even though a visa is not required. The authorisation is checked on arrival. Apply online and carry a printed or digital copy with your passport and accommodation details.

06Which is better for a honeymoon, Seychelles or Maldives?

Seychelles suits couples wanting beaches plus hiking, island drives and wildlife; Maldives suits couples prioritising one-resort privacy, villas and water activities. Seychelles involves inter-island ferries and more varied landscapes. Maldives offers a single-resort stay with less planning. Both work for Indian honeymooners.

07Which islands should I visit in Seychelles?

Mahé, Praslin and La Digue form the most practical first-trip combination; Curieuse can be added as a day excursion from Praslin. Mahé covers Victoria and hiking. Praslin has Vallée de Mai and Anse Lazio. La Digue offers cycling and Anse Source d’Argent.

08Is Seychelles expensive for Indian tourists?

Yes, especially for beachfront resorts, ferries, private transfers and imported food, although guesthouses, buses and self-catering can reduce costs. A budget land-only trip starts around INR 85,000 per person. Premium travel can exceed INR 2,20,000 per person, excluding airfare.
